MOOQ Report 2026

EMRC Visit Report

On 17 February 2026, a visit was conducted to the Educational Multimedia Research Centre Kolkata to observe the production process of lecture series developed for the SWAYAM portal. The observation session was hosted by St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, and was attended by Neerajana Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, and Soham Mukherjee, Assistant Professor, Department of English. The participants were introduced to the technical and instructional procedures involved in recording Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The visit aimed to provide a practical understanding of how academic lecture modules are conceptualized, recorded, and edited for online learning platforms.
During the session, it was highlighted in most recordings, the instructor’s face is not prominently visible, as the PowerPoint presentation from the laptop is recorded and later overlaid onto the video. This approach ensures that learners remain focused on the lecture material. In cases where an error occurs during delivery, instructors are advised to pause briefly and then restart the sentence, allowing editors to remove mistakes seamlessly during post-production. Participants were also informed about the importance of preparing transcripts with adequate spacing, specifically maintaining a one-line gap between each line. This helps speakers maintain continuity while occasionally looking away from the screen. Auto-scrolling text/teleprompter may be used to facilitate smooth delivery. The speaking style is expected to closely resemble classroom teaching. Instructors may refer to a laptop for script support. Looking directly into the camera is optional and depends on the comfort level of the speaker. It was further explained that all MOOCs for SWAYAM are produced exclusively at EMRC. Each module is typically recorded in a single sitting, with minimal cuts between sections, and the duration of each module is kept under 30 minutes.
The session provided valuable insights into the professional standards and methodologies followed in developing high-quality digital learning resources.
