Mentorship Sessions on NAAC Attributes with Dr. Sharmila Mitra

Loreto College had the privilege of engaging in an intensive series of mentorship sessions with Dr. Sharmila Mitra, retired Principal of Behala Autonomous College, who has been recently appointed as the Mentor of the College and with her vast administrative experience and deep understanding of accreditation processes, Dr. Mitra guided the institution through a structured review of NAAC attributes.

A total of 12 focused sessions were conducted, each dedicated to specific NAAC criteria and key quality indicators. Prior to the commencement of the sessions, every Attribute Team was assigned a convenor along with one IQAC member, ensuring coordinated preparation and documentation. Each team was allotted separate presentation dates (ten structured dates were fixed in advance) to present their existing practices, raise queries, and seek clarifications.

During the sessions:

  1.  Each team made detailed presentations on its respective attribute.
  2.  Queries regarding documentation, policy frameworks, data validation, and evidence compilation were thoroughly discussed.
  3.  Dr. Mitra provided comprehensive feedback, highlighting strengths, identifying gaps, and suggesting corrective measures.
  4.  The IQAC was present in every meeting, carefully recording recommendations and action points for systematic follow-up.

One of the significant outcomes of these sessions was the emphasis on institutional policy framing. Dr. Mitra advised the formulation and strengthening of several institutional policies to ensure compliance, clarity, and long-term sustainability. These recommendations were subsequently forwarded to the Governance Team and the Head of the Institution for necessary action and implementation.

The final and most comprehensive session was conducted with the Governance and Finance Team, where broader institutional issues were discussed. The focus was on aligning financial planning, administrative processes, and governance structures with the College’s Vision and Mission, thereby reinforcing its commitment to excellence in higher education.
These mentorship sessions have not only strengthened the College’s preparedness for NAAC but have also fostered a culture of reflective practice, accountability, and strategic planning. Under Dr. Mitra’s guidance, Loreto College continues to move forward in its journey toward becoming a more robust, policy-driven, and future-ready institution.
