On the 22nd of January, 2026 four teacher trainees Rituja Nandy, Sayoni Das, Tandra Dey and Sujana Mukherjee (Group 9) took a trip to the Birla Planetarium to understand astronomical concepts and to the further the development of their skills for effective Social Science teaching. The show we saw was called Cosmic Collision and it was an enriching learning experience. The visually immersive presentation helped us understand complex astronomical concepts, such as the formation of galaxies, black holes and planetary collisions in a simple and engaging manner. The use of simulations, narration and sound effects made abstract ideas more concrete and memorable. This visit highlighted the importance of experiential learning in science education. We realised how such audio-visual tools can spark curiosity, promote scientific thinking and cater to diverse learning styles in the classroom. The trip also encouraged us to think about innovative teaching strategies beyond textbooks. The advantages of such a trip for the students are plenty. First it will enhance their conceptual clarity of the complex cosmic phenomenon. It will aid in critical thinking and reflection. Having a practical, experiential and hands-on learning will allow them to apply learnt knowledge.
It will also initiate an inquiry-based learning approach within them. Lastly activities such as field trips foster the development of social skills, build teamwork within the members of the team and makes learning more enjoyable.
