Educational Field Visit to Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata On 21st December 2025, my friend, Anushruti Bhattacharya and I (Ayushi Ghosh) visited the Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata, as part of our B.Ed. field training programme. The purpose of this educational visit was to understand the life, teachings, and educational philosophy of Swami Vivekananda through direct observation
and experiential learning. We reached the venue at around 4:30 p.m., where we were warmly welcomed and briefed about the historical importance of the site.
During the visit, we explored various galleries and sections that showcased Swami Vivekananda’s childhood, family background, education, spiritual journey, travels, writings, and contributions to India’s socio-cultural and educational reform. One of the most interesting parts was the gallery highlighting his mischievous childhood nature, which helped us relate to him as a lively and curious child rather than only a great spiritual leader. This made his life journey more realistic and
inspiring. The exhibits included photographs, manuscripts, personal belongings, and visual displays that gave us deep insights into his life and ideals. Additionally, the audio-visual system presenting narratives from his famous Chicago Address in a 3D format was highly engaging and attractive for both adults and children, making the learning experience immersive and memorable. In conclusion, the field visit was a deeply enriching and meaningful experience for both of us. It strengthened our historical understanding, reflective thinking, and pedagogical skills while connecting theoretical knowledge with real-life learning. Most importantly, it inspired us to view teaching as a mission of service, character-building, and nation-building, motivating us to adopt innovative and learner-centered teaching practices in our future careers.
