Report on Educational Tour to Barrackpore (Gandhi Museum and Gandhi Ghat)
The Department of Education organised an Educational Tour to Barrackpore, covering the Gandhi Museum and Gandhi Ghat, on January 6, 2026. The tour commenced at 9:15 a.m., with the bus departing from the college campus. A total of 48 students from Semester I, III, and V participated in the tour, accompanied by three faculty members—Dr. Ranjita Dawn, Dr. Sukanya Mullick, and Ms. Tania Mondal.
The primary aim of the tour was to provide experiential learning by enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of the life, philosophy, and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, and to relate his ideals to educational and social contexts. As part of the visit, students explored the Gandhi Museum, where they observed exhibits, photographs, and archival materials depicting Gandhian values such as truth, non-violence, simplicity, and social responsibility. Additionally, the students watched a documentary based on the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi, which offered valuable insights into his life journey, struggles, and moral philosophy, thereby enriching their learning experience. The visit to Gandhi Ghat further provided students with an opportunity for reflection on the relevance of Gandhian principles in contemporary society.
The educational tour proved to be highly informative and meaningful, fostering historical awareness, value-based education, and reflective thinking among the students. The group returned safely to the college campus by 5:15 p.m., marking the successful completion of a well-organised and enriching educational visit.
